Whether a generator is a tts::randoms, by its type.

tts::generation keys on the type being built, so a specialization that has to treat a range apart cannot see it in the overload set the way a produce overload could. Recognizing the generator is left here rather than at the point of use, where it would come down to guessing from the members a generator happens to carry.
